Me, being silly as I am, wanted to start a compilation of absolute best quotes from some of the TOS characters...chime in with your favorites!
I'm gonna start with a couple of my faves from everyone's favoritest half-Vulcan. :D
"Live long and prosper."--"Amok Time" (duh!)
"Insults are effective only where emotion is present."--"Who Mourns for Adonais?"
"Humans do have an amazing capacity for believing what they choose and excluding that which is painful."--"And the Children Shall Lead" (wow, how apt!)
"Take D'artangnan here to Sick Bay."--"The Naked Time"
"I love you. I can love you!"--"This Side of Paradise"
"You make a very credible Nazi."--"Patterns of Force"
"I would advise yous ta keep dialin', Oxmyx."--"A Piece of the Action"
And, of course...
"JIM!!"--"Amok Time" XD
There are definitely TONS more.

"I'm a doctor not an escalator!"
"I'm a doctor not a bricklayer!"
"He's dead, Jim."
~Bones
Those are my two favorite "I'm a doctor not a ______". And you can't forget the "He's dead, Jim." Since he said it pretty much EVERY TIME SOMEONE DIED.

I've come to expect it. Someone dies, and without even thinking, I'm like, "He's dead, Jim." Or, better yet, "He'll die, Jim."
Let's see if we can get every single "I'm a doctor, not a *insert adjective here*" quote, and list the eps they come from. If it's recurrent, just list like the first or something.

I should do that in real life too. "He's dead, Jim." Just say it while watching newscasts.

Unfortunately, it wasn't. :( It was this annoying blond chick whom I pretty much wanted to stab to death. But the quote was pretty significant. As stinky as that episode was for fangirls (well, most of it anyways) it was still pretty good.

@tales: how do they feel about homosexuality in cinema? or in general?
talesofsomething
07-09-2009, 02:11 AM
@PCG: In general...my mom is definitely a 'phobe. But if I want to keep living here until the one precious year until I go to college, I definitely cannot come out as bi or express any interest in slash pairings and the like...a while back, she busted me with some yaoi/slash stuff on my computer (ouch) and gave me the whole "GOD IS SENDING YOU AND ALL THE GAYS TO HELL" bit, and I just told her, "I have different beliefs." I try to avoid bringing it up, because the woman is stubborn.
My sister, on the other hand, has seen the logic of, y'know, LOVE meaning LOVE, but she's still kinda squeamish on the subject. And she is well aware of slash. But she's made it a point to hate everything I love in life, and definitely makes a point of letting me know that ST slash is just "wrong". She's in middle school, three years younger than me...about the same time I started to realize that civil rights means civil rights for everybody, so even if she doesn't become a rabid shipper like I am, I hope she can at least appreciate it better.

"That 'unit' is a woman."
"A mass of conflicting impulses."

"It's not easy to lose a bright and promising son."
"Sir?"
"Well, it thought I was its mother didn't it? Do you think I am completely without feelings Mr. Spock? You saw what it did to Scotty. What a doctor it would have made. (Pause) My son, the doctor. (Hits heart) Gets you right there."

Yeah, I loved them. The jab to the female gender and then Kirk's little fantasy was just hilarious! I expecially loved McCoy's face as Kirk was going on about his son, the docter.
I also liked The Apple-'s ending, where Spock compares Kirk to the Devil in the Adam and Eve tale. Then Kirk and McCoy walk around Spock, asking "Who on this entire ship, Mr. Spock, reminds you of the Devil?" And Spock then crosses his arms and is like, "No one, Captin." Kirk gives him a look, "Uhuh."

One of my faves is:
Bones: I know your not afraid to die, your afraid to live! Every moment your alive is another moment you might slip and show emotion. Why you wouldn't know what to do with a warm, genuine human feeling.
Spock: Wouldn't I Doctor?
Bones: Yeah, I'm worried about Jim too.
It just shows that Spock cares deeply for Jim *Gushes*

I just watched that one last night, and I was kinda torn. Yeah, Boma (token...) was a jerk, but if you look at it from a neutral perspective, yeah, even though he was an insubordinate little bitch, at times he did have valid points. Logic is flawed at best sometimes, much as it hurts to say that. :(
End rant.

Spock to Jim: "I have been, and always shall be yours."
^_^
Spock: "We shall continue sensor scans, Doctor. At the moment, that is all we can do, except hope for a rational explanation."
McCoy:"Hope? I always thought that was a human failing, Mr. Spock."
Spock: "True, Doctor. Constant exposure does result in a certain degree of contamination."

Star Trek III The Search For Spock

Ugh, just READING that makes me go all mushy and squee. ^.^

Aw, most of my favorites are already listed (obviously) but here are some others I love:
From "The Apple" after Spock saves Kirk's life...again. <3
KIRK: What were you trying to do?
SPOCK: I surmised you were unaware of that plant, so I --
KIRK: Took the thorns yourself.
SPOCK: I assure you, Captain, I had no intention of doing that. My own clumsiness prevented me from moving out of the way.
KIRK: Next time, yell. I can step out of the way as quickly as the next man.
SPOCK: I shall do so.
KIRK: You know how much Starfleet has invested in you?
SPOCK: 122,22 --
KIRK: Never mind.
But ...
thanks.
From "The Devil In The Dark" (one of my favorite eps!)
SPOCK: The creature is in this area. I'll take a lifeform reading.
KIRK: It's not necessary, Mr. Spock. I know exactly where the creature is.
SPOCK: Where, Captain?
KIRK: 10 feet away from me.
SPOCK: Kill it, Captain, quickly.
KIRK: It's not making any threatening moves, Spock.
SPOCK: You don't dare take the chance. Kill it.
KIRK: I thought you wanted it kept alive, captured if possible.
SPOCK: Jim, your life is in danger. You can't take the risk.
Awww, Spock is so cute when he contradicts himself for Jim's sake...

@Oni--
Tos drinking game--whenever Kirk makes moon eyes at Spock, take a shot. Whenever Spock makes moon eyes at Kirk, take a shot. Whenever they touch (not accidently) take a shot. Sheesh, I hope I'd be drinking something nonalcoholic, or I'd be floorspaced.
The first time I watched TOS it was 'Devil in the Dark' and it was that scene where Rocks where falling on Kirk and Spocks FREAKING out about Jim on the other end of the Commlink.
Devil in the dark is one of my favourites too, and one I saw as a kid. Watching it when I was a bit older, I realized every time something bad happened to Kirk, or was ABOUT to happen to Kirk, the so called vegetarian pacifist Vulcan would start aiming his phaser, jumping in front of deadly things, or saying "Kill it Kill it! Kill it now before it gets Jim!" It was like watching a cat...hackles raise, hissing, spitting :P
@Lindz--I just watched The Apple last night. So many funny quotes, and it was so epically obvious Spock was lying through is half Vulcan teeth. I spose he's allowed--half lies anyway. Rationalization :P "I had no intention of doing that" my arse. And Jim, giving him a good tongue lashing, and sidling up and muttering--"Thank you". XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY0ACQKfIrc
But my favourite quote for this moment is from The Apple, actually and it goes like this...it might just be Nimoy's delivery and expressions, which are totally excellent this whole episode.
(the natives have just wrapped flowers around the arms of the party)
Kirk (to Spock): It...ah...does something for you.
Spock: Yes, Captain it does. (pause) It makes me uncomfortable.
(after McCoy revives him with a hypo when he gets hit by plant seeds)
Spock: "your potions do what they always do, turn my stomach."
Take a shot every time Kirk seduces a girl, and at the end of it runs back to Spock.
(He does that a lot too.)

Take a shot whenever Kirk defends Spock against something, like when Charlie makes him recite poetry, even though he had endured the abuse of other crew members.

Not to mention, that's a total contradiction right there, something Vulcans rarely do, but Jim is in danger! When Jim or Spock is in danger, everything changes!
From The Voyage Home.
Kirk: "Spock, where the Hell is my Power you promised me?"
Spock:"One Damned Minute Admiral."
"Are you sure you won't change your mind?"
Spock turns to Kirk, "Is there something wrong with the one I have?"
Kirk: "I think he did a little to much LDS."
Old Lady in the hospital:"The Doctor Gave me a Pill and I grew a New Kidney!"
Scotty: "Hello Computer!"

Spock: "Are you sure this isn't time for a colorful metaphor?"
Spock: "No."
Kirk: "Yes!"
Spock: "No."
Kirk: "Yes!"
Spock: "No."
*look at each other*
Kirk: "I love Italian. And so do you."
Spock: "....Yes."

Well, this isn't a favorite quote, but I found this in a video today, and it made me cry.
Its from the pilot of TNG where Bones makes a cameo.
Bones: (talking about the Enterprise) "This is a new ship...but she's got the right name. Now you remember that, you hear? You treat her like a lady...and she'll always bring you home."
WAAHHH. *cries* you really have to watch the video to understand.
Its just so sad...but I don't know why.
Maybe its just me and my damn teenage hormones.

Waaah~ Now I'm a puddle of tears. T_T Oh, Bones. Bones, Bones, Bones... *huggle*

Don't know if this has been posted already but I just watched this movie last night so here it goes.
ST- Search For Spock
Kirk: I did what I had too
Sarek: Yes but at what cost, your son, your ship...
Kirk: If hadn't tried the cost would have been my soul
At least I believe thats how it goes...if not please correct me!

Here's one that I'm surprised no one's posted yet. It made me squee SO hard.
From "The Ultimate Computer":
Spock (to Kirk): A starship runs on loyalty to one man. And neither it, nor he, can ever be replaced.
At least, it's something like that. It's been a while since I watched it.

I just read through all of these again and I have reached the conclusion that all of you are made of win.
"Set phasers to stun!" (c'mon, seriously? But for the record I think its first apperance was in "The Enemy Within)
And I'm really stunned no one's said this one yet, 'cuz it's one of my absolute favorites of the whole thing. In "Devil in the Dark", when Bones has just fixed up the Horta, the way he just grins like an idiot and says, "By golly, Jim, I'm beginning to think I could cure a rainy day!" I just laugh like crazy every single time, just 'cuz the delivery. (On a side note, I can't be the only K/S fangirl who caught some ass-tapping just a few minutes prior. There was a moment that looked suspiciously like inappropriate groping there. But my goggles are on too tight.)
And, also, again, "this simple feeling." BECAUSE IT LEAVES NO DOUBT IN YOUR MIND WHAT FEELING IT IS. ARGHHH.

Spock: "Hoochie woochie coochie coo, Captain?"
Jim: "Yes, Mr. Spock, 'Hoochie woochie coochie coo'-- obscure Earth dialect."
From "Friday's Child"
Ahahahaha...it pretty much made my day. :)

I think that was one of like the first five I ever saw when I started watching them a little less than a year ago...I can't remember much except that McCoy was pretty much BAMFing it up the whole time. I do recall a slap scene that had me staring at my television like: O.O
