Debra Messing, Zachary Quinto and Jason Alexander are some of the celebrities scheduled to be on hand Saturday, Sept. 12, at the El Portal Theatre for a one-night-only staged reading of 12 new short plays inspired by the debate over Proposition 8 in California.

“Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays” will feature original works by playwrights including Terrence McNally, Susan Miller, Jose Rivera, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Albert Innaurato, Kira Obolensky, Jeffrey Hatcher and more.

Also included in the cast will be Hamish Linklater, Clark Gregg, Dan Lauria, Peter Paige and Lisa Edelstein. (Chad Allen, who is listed on the poster, left, has had to withdraw from the show, according to a publicist.)

The production is being organized by the Attic Theatre Conservatory’s director Brian Shnipper, who will also direct the production.

Each of the 12 plays will run several minutes in length and will address some aspect of gay marriage using a wide range of approaches including comedy, drama and high camp.

Tickets are going for $60 to $80, and the proceeds will benefit the Human Rights Campaign

That would be an amazing event to attend :). I'm glad that so many people are coming together to creatively enlighten others on this issue (and use the proceeds for a worthy cause).

Wish I could go...

I saw that on Livejournal. I would love to go. It would be so moving and inspirational. I wonder if someone can illegally film it for the rest of us who can't attend?

You know what? September 12 is dangerously close to the time that I have to leave for UCLA... (Classes start September 21, and I should get there kind of early so I can unpack and get settled and stuff.) This could be freaking awesome.

And yes, I would try to illegally film it for you guys, don't worry. :)

...I need to talk to my parents. I think I have about $100 dollars of random spending money left. * crosses fingers *

asdfhkhakf NOHO IS MY HOME BASE. Not really, it's half an hour drive, but I can scrounge the money (just for zq) and if any one--ANY ONE--of you is going, hit me up. It'll be fun.

Oh God! That's in North Hollywood. I can so go! It's only about a half hour drive. Now, if only my parents would let me. Or I could go with a friend. Oh, i want to so badly!

I'd go, but college will be in full swing for me. :(

Have fun, those of you who go! This is a great cause!
