"David Gerrold, famous for writing the "Trouble with Tribbles" Star Trek episode, also wrote an episode that included gay characters - but it was shot down by Paramount. Now you can watch it online... (more (http://io9.com/5113745/long+suppressed-gay-star-trek-episode-comes-out)) "

I really hope this is true...does anyone know for sure?!? *dies* this is just so awesome. WE NEED MORE OF THIS.

Thanks for sharing! I heard about the episode before, but I didn't know anyone actually did it. I found the page for downloading the episode via bittorrent on the Phase II website. Here it is if you're interested. (http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/episode_baf01.html) I haven't actually seen any Phase II episodes, but I hear that they do a brilliant job of continuing the TOS tradition.

Thank you! I figured out after I posted this thread that it is, indeed true!! It just seems so wonderful eh? Thank you for the link! I might even download it....I just have to get used to the new voyages cast. I really like their Chekov!

I saw the clip from this episode, where the two lovers share a moment on the bed <3 Here's a link to it. I must say, it's reaaallly cute. I still can't believe a TOS writer wrote this!

Oh Lordy, bad!acting is bad. The way Peter flops himself onto the bed all emo. And his emo litle rant to that Vulcan guy.
But the idea of Kirk marrying Peter & Alex = so much win I can't stop squeeing! I don't even know or care about these characters and already I'm all gooey inside. Maybe it's cause of Kirk's involvement. Although that Kirk & that Spock = no. No chemistry and just... no. Bones was ok, and Checkov & Uhura were pretty good.

Also, Peter taking Kirk's name made me think of the begining of Kirk's preface in the TMP Novel "My name is James Tiberius Kirk. Kirk because my father and his male forebears followed the old custom of passing along a family identity name." Win!

I agree! The acting is really terrible. "Guess who?" "...Mr. Sulu." What the hell? Is that supposed to be poking fun at George Takei for being gay? Come on. Kirk and Spock in new voyages are, in my opinion pretty bad which is why I probably could never watch the series, but I just like the idea that a TOS writer actually wrote gay characters into a script. As I was watching it I was trying to imagine it actually on TOS and it was just awesome that way.

I can't tell if I really like it, or if I don't like it very much at all. I've still got a little bit of a stigma when it comes to seeing it on-screen. Like I have the feeling that if I'm caught watching it it's the equivalent of being caught watching porn. Honestly, my dad would probably react better to me watching this if it were porn(and straight porn at that). *sighs*

I can watch the L-word, but I still quail inwardly a little at watching gay!man stuff. It's the way I was raised and it's why SEE is a really good thing, so that we can start teaching people that watching this stuff isn't wrong. I'll get used to it eventually, when I've moved out of the house, and I have my own internet connection.

(really my dad probably wouldn't react too badly to something like this, it's just my own insecurities and fears peeking out.) XD

((sorry for the rant.))

I must say, those outfits make Peter and Alex look like babies. Brightly coloured overalls? Bad idea.

(I had to laugh a bit listening to Kirk talk...and watching that eyebrow on Spock. I couldn't help it. And that little Vulcan dude made me giggle like a six-year-old.) All the grunting and sighing on that bed...way to make me feel dirty, guys. If you were trying not to sound porny you failed.
Not that it is porny, but....Wow. (Their Spock makes me think of Tuvok more than Spock, and Kirk made me go O.o, but it was...interesting nontheless.)
I count this a worthwhile experience, even the eyebrowraise-worthy bits.

And yes, their Chekov is nice. I like their Chekov.

I don't think I'll be watching much of Phase II (this is not my computer, and I saw the word "download"...my heart froze in my chest). Still, it looks...interesting.

Does anyone know when it was written? As far as I was aware, Phase II was concieved before they made TMP, when they wanted to revive Star Trek but weren't sure how. Positive gay characters back then would've been... AMAZING! I can't actually wrap my head around that idea, and my mind keeps telling me 'No, it must've been written in the 90s'. I mean... just imagine how different the world would be today if that had been made in the 70s. Homophobia would be looked upon with distain the same way racism is...

Does anyone know when it was written?

After I Googled this episode it said that the writer of the TOS episode "The Trouble With Tribbles" actually wrote this episode for a TOS episode, but obviously they didn't use it, and they decided 40 something years later to put it in Phase II.

If it was written for TOS, it would have to be in, idk, season 10 or something. How old was Peter when we met him in Operation Anihilate? He was a young teenager, wasn't he?

Yeah, that confused me too. Peter was a little kid in Operation: Annihilate. That was season 1, so 2266...if it was in the five year mission it would have to be 2271 at the latest, but then he'd just be a teenager. It confuses me. XD

Easy solution: Use Kirk and Spock instead! :D

I actually can't watch this because my computer doesn't play Torrent files, but the concept is interesting. Curse you, Paramont!

Perhaps this unfilmed episode was written before the episode that included Peter? And then when it got scrapped they decided to make Peter younger..?

That was some BAD acting right there. I mean, the actor who played Bones was just bad. And so was everyone else. Well, Chekov was pretty good.

I don't really get the thing about Peter's age. Oh well, it's sci-fi, anything can happen really. There's probably some excuse for rapid aging or something.

Now, if someone will just do this with Kirk and Spock and all will be right in the world.
