So, we have Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube.

I have an account on reddit (it's a news-sharing site, much like digg, except don't let the redditors hear me saying that because they'll kill me)--I could post a link there. Should I do it now, or later when it's more firmly established?

Someone could also do the same with a digg account, and any other news-sharing sites?

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is digg?

And do you think it would be a good idea to advertise on deviantArt?
I know that place is full of K/S fans.
I could set up an account for a club or group...thoughts?

Aaaand...well, I can't think of any more sites at the moment, but I'll keep thinking!

Ooh, yes. I think deviantart would be excellent. Please do. :D

digg/reddit/etc are sites where people submit their own links about the news/funny things/random. You can vote them up or down, depending on whether you like them. Um. I don't quite know how to explain--if you just take a peek around (www.reddit.com), it's mostly pretty self-explanatory.

Hooray for publicity/spreading the word! I don't hang around on the internet that much, so I guess inviting people through facebook will be my main contribution. We can't, of course, rule out mainstream media to help us spread the word to people who don't inhabit the world of the internet (and there is a press section on the main site that needs some filling in)...I have no idea how to get things into the local newspaper, but in a boring community like mine, it can't be that difficult (I was on the local news yesterday for dressing up for the main San Francisco midnight showing of Harry Potter...). I'll look into it.

Oh, that is SO COOL. Lucky. :)

As far as non-internet promotion, I'd be willing to do some fliers and posters, etc. and put them up around my city.
We have this little section of town that is full of shops and restaurants that let you put up stuff like that.
And the crowd that hangs around there is very ultra-artsy-liberal types, so I think our message would be reaching a receptive audience.
Plus, it would be fun designing flyers. :P

Just randomly perusing some websites of local newspapers, I'm realizing that these papers (who have a ton of readers) generally like to report on *local* events and businesses...my local papers don't seem to report on "internet phenomena" very often. In fact, oftentimes the only internet phenomena that get any coverage in the mainstream media are silly pop culture viral videos. Nonprofit organizations get plenty of press--I find this case interesting as this organization has no real geographical base and simply lives out on the internet. Because of this, I doubt any of us will be out on the streets in significant droves so that newspapers will have any incentive to look twice at us.

Are there any famous blogs or internet extensions of the mainstream press out there that would link to us? A possibility...but probably only after we gain more of a following.

Just some thoughts...this is beginning to interest me.

Oh and as far as flyers go...I would love to hand some out, once they get designed and whatnot!

Newsweek did an article on the Kirk/Spock slash phenomenon at some point.

I've added us to StumbleUpon, so if you have the toolbar or an account or whatever, go to the front page and thumbs up us! The more people who do it, the more often it'll show up.

Here (http://www.newsweek.com/id/195963) is the Kirk/Spock Newsweek article, if anyone's interested.

Should we have, like, an official thing to put in our profiles/whatever. Like, an official picture or something that people can just copy & paste into their profiles if they want to spread the word? On my ff.net profile I've got this:

I support the campaign for social equality in Star Trek
Do you SEE the Love?
www.seetreklove.com/petition.php
Social Equality Effort in Star Trek
Coming Soon...

but it'd be good if we could have something officail that basically anyone could copy/paste that said exactly what we were about in short, simple terms and then provided a link where people could find out more.

I have an account on SheroesFans (and SheroesCentral, but that account is being mean to me), and I've recently added a link to my sig. It would be nice to have a banner instead, because with a banner I'd just type in a url and let the banner speak for itsself (like, explain things and stuff, which is hard to do with 275 characters...seeing as it's an explanation and a link).
I'm not on many sites, so.... That's about as out there as I get.

I'd say a typical banner-type link would be a good idea. But some places like ff.net don't support images in descriptions. I do think some sort of unified linking is a grand idea though.

Perhaps an option of a graphics banner or a text one? Pick whichever one happens to be suitable for the place setting.

I actually don't think micromanaging alot of places is a very good idea (which makes me like the idea of a banner/text-linkage representation even more). Honestly, just going by "internet culture," I think we mostly need to pick a couple of high traffic network sites - Facebook being a good one. Otherwise a simple colorful, attractive link should suffice. Animations are nice; I could do a simple banner one if we wanted. Something small, but eye catching!

Keeping an area like that active with people tends to draw in more attention, I believe. This website and forum would obviously be the "central hub" though. Mostly we need to be personable and active in keeping with people. Socialization draws in the people after all. It's how the Myspace celebrities basically came into play as well.

(Also, if I'm not making sense do tell me. I'm a bit out of it. Needing my nighttime power nap. :P)

You guys have really great ideas about how to get the word out! :D The petition is growing longer every day! This may have already been mentioned, but I think the writers will take it more seriously if there were more male signatures. While I think it's awesome that so many of the girls are for K/S and social equality, if we can get males on board it might be more clear that we aren't doing this just because we think K/S is hot. Just some food for thought...

There are definitely male signatures on the list, but I see what you're saying. It is definitely comprised of mainly females. We must reach out to the male population! Call all the guys you know!;)

But I don't know that many men. Maybe...2? 3? I know quite a few via internet, but not that well.

...

I know plenty of guys, but they're just not into this sort of stuff. It's not that they hate on other people for being not straight, more like they just don't care to get involved.

It happens to the best of us, no worries!

Can we brainstorm on ideas to get more men-folk involved, or is it just better to stick with what we've got and hope the more it spreads, the more people (in general) will support it?

I don't know, but I just mass posted publicity for the website and petition at my forums/yahoo groups. Even though we're not mainly concerned with Star Trek. Hopefully this is not gonna turn on me, since I don't think a lot of people in my forums actually read and advocate homosexual relationships. Ah well. All for the cause!

Well. I put together a flyer, but it won't let me attatch it to this post.
Its nothing particularly exciting, but its something.
But you're welcome to use it if you want to. :)
Here's a smaller version of the actual thing. http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5294/miniflyer.jpg
In case you can't read it, the words are the mission statement from the site, and at the bottom, its the URL repeated over and over.
You're supposed to cut between the lines of the URLs so people can rip one off and keep it...kind of like with phone numbers on advertisements, you know?
PM me your email address if you want the full version. :)

Well, I posted a link to this website several times on the Kirk/Spock Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/KirkSpock/54413810338?ref=ts#/pages/KirkSpock/54413810338?ref=ts)fan page ! That seems to be working quite well! :D

The flyer is a cool idea! Perhaps you could put a link to the large file instead of actually putting it here?

Hey is it okay if I use the site logo and create some posters/ flyers to put up around my school in September?? Well in the upper half (16+) at least cos its probably gonna have a more receptive audience there :)

I thoguht it could get more people interested in what we're trying to do and maybe recruit new members :)

Also if we get any definite ideas for mugs/ t-shirts or whatever, I know we have a christmas fair coming up so we could sell some there for donations and stuff or just organise coffe mornings or whatever to get funds?

Lol just thoughts :) but is it okay if I pinch the site logo cos I wanna put it on my school bag so everyone can see it and it'll allow me a chance to explain what we do :)

lol what a waffle! xD
